Sort by color

People ususally use dark beer, white beer, and yellow beer to describe the color of beer.

The international standard beer color index is SRM (Standard Reference Method). 

According to this index, beer is divided into three categories according to color, from the lightest straw color to the deepest black. 

99% of the beer produced in China are all pale beers.

Light color (EBC Chroma: 2-14): light yellow to golden yellow

Intense color (EBC chroma: 15-40): brownish-yellow

Black (EBC Chroma greater than 41): dark brown to black

Dark beer mainly uses coking malt and black malt as raw material. It uses less hops and is brewed using a long-term saccharification process. 

It originated in Germany and is the most famous for Munich beer.

Yellow beer has a strong hop aroma and is light yellow in color. It is very delicate and has rich foam. 

The body is smooth, clear, transparent,  and the liquor is not turbid. It is the top pure beer product among traditional beers.

White beer is just lighter in color. It contains more yeast and lactic acid, sometimes added with oats, 

has a low alcohol content and is more suitable for women to drink.

Classified by wort content

⒈Low concent beer. The Original gravity is 7% to 8%, and the alcohol content is about 2%.

⒉Medium concent beer. The Original gravity is 11% to 12%, and the alcohol content is around 3.1% to 3.8%. 

It is the main product of large-scale industrial beer in China.

⒊High concent beer. The Original gravity is 14% to 20%, and the alcohol content is around 4.9% to 5.6%, such as craft beer.


Classified by sterilization

⒈Fresh beer. Also known as draft beer, it refers to beer that has been pasteurized during production. 

It has a delicious taste and preserves some nutritional yeasts, but the beer age is short (it can be stored at low temperature for about 3 days, 

and refrigerated at 0℃-5℃ for about a month) ), suitable for local sales only.

⒉ cooked beer. Sterilized beer can prevent yeast from continuing to ferment, is less affected by microorganisms, 

has a long wine age, strong stability, is suitable for export, and the color of the wine becomes darker.

3. Pure draft beer. Pure fermentation, production without high-temperature sterilization, 

membrane filtration technology is used to filter out yeast and miscellaneous bacteria, 

so that the beer avoids heat damage and maintains its original fresh taste. Finally, aseptic filling is performed.


Classification by fermentation method

Ale: Yeast is fermented at the top of the ferment tank, the temperature is slightly higher, the fermentation time is short, 

and it accounts for more than 80% of beer types.

Lager: The yeast is fermented at the bottom of the fermenter at a slightly lower temperature and takes a long time.

 It accounts for about 15% of the beer types. Production accounts for 90%+ of the world’s beer

Classification by brewing process

Industrial beer: Most of the beers sold on the market are industrial beers.

The disadvantage is that some auxiliary materials may be added to reduce costs. 

For example, in the ingredient list, it is not "hops" but hop extract. . Purity affects taste.

Craft beer: traditional pure raw materials (barley malt, hops, water, yeast) and fermentation process, small output.
